The Ensemble of Contemporary Music was founded by the homonymous course of the Conservatory "Luigi Cherubini" and the new system collects students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate experimental. By its nature, therefore, is not a stable, but varies from year to year depending on enrollment and accessions to the matter. The main purpose of the course is to give participants a first contact with the music of the twentieth century, virtually absent from the academic programs of the conservative Italian. Particular attention is given to those authors who have previously worked in the Florentine area or within the same Cherubini. Luigi Dallapiccola, Pietro Grossi, Clemente Terni (of which this year marks the tenth anniversary of his death), and the six members of the Schola Fiorentina (Carlo Prosperi, Sylvano Bussotti, Arrigo Welcome, Reginald Smith-Brindle, Bruno Bartolozzi, Alvaro Company) are the authors that the EMC attends more, with the intent to discover, evaluate and disclose the scores that have marked the history of new music in Florence after the war.
Beyond that the EMC is the tool through which you realize many of the scores produced by the classes of composition. Students composers, selected by their teachers, working shoulder to shoulder with the musicians that make up the Ensemble. They build their new songs and so have the opportunity to experience the ways that will lead them to define their own language and to refine their own means of expression. This collaboration and this comparison give astonishing results: a mutual desire for knowledge and deepening their powers, those of the authors and performers, in the common awareness of the complementary roles of each.
The program that the EMC will offer visitors to Florence Contemporary Sounds, focuses on six pieces by Florentine, students of composition of the Conservatory. How we frame a piece of anti-avant-garde Hans Werner Henze and an example of the Italian: Consonant of Niccolò Castiglioni, a song dedicated to Wolfgang Steinecke, founder of Ferienkurse Darmstadt. Arrigo Benvenuti, a member of the Schola Fiorentina, FroBorSal's Trio, a predominantly graphic score, which fully reflects the trends of the music of the seventies. FroBorSal stands for Frosali, Borghese and Saldarelli, the three components of the Guitar Trio Italian, to whom the piece is dedicated.
